A Little Life Update

Hi hello, remember me?

It’s been nearly three weeks since I last wrote a blog post. Writer’s block has been nipping at my ankles, which has been so nice and relaxing and not stressful at allllll. *sarcasm*

On top of that, there’s been a LOT of travelling, freelance work and life things happening, so I figured I’d try to bust through my word block with a not-very-useful but very-easy-to-write life update.

Here’s what’s new in Katy World!

little miss katylife update

Gary’s moving to San Francisco for the summer

Yep. It’s all happened rather quickly, but my boyfriend is heading Stateside for three months. I’m hoping to get out and see him for a few weeks later in the summer, but for now we’ll be working things out long-distance.

As you can imagine, we’ve been trying to spend as much time as we can together before he leaves this weekend!

I’ve become addicted to Love Island

There are four people to blame for my Love Island addiction: Twitter for refusing to mute all the Love Island related words I asked it to mute; Charlie and Katie for insisting I’d love it; and Gary for leaving me with empty summer evenings to fill.

I started it on Friday and I’ve already caught up with this season (Alex ♥︎), and I’m also halfway through watching season 1 (god those horrible Italian twins were annoying, weren’t they?).

What can I say? It’s fun, entertaining, and reminds me of afternoons watching Geordie Shore with my best mate after uni!

I’ve lost half a stone

After hitting my heaviest weight ever a few months ago, fighting to fit into any of my clothes, and really struggling to breathe when climbing stairs, I finally decided to do something about it.

I’m not doing any sort of proper diet, I’ve just been trying to do what I’ve always done in the past: eating mindfully, stopping when my belly says I’m full, cutting down on alcohol and carbs, and upping my protein, veg and water intake.

It’s mainly my fitness and strength levels that have been bothering me though, so that’s next on my list. Our new local gym opens in a few weeks and I’ve already scored a super cheap membership by signing up early, so I can’t wait to get back to weight-lifting and running again soon!

I’ve started building my freelance photography portfolio

FINALLY. I haven’t sorted out a website yet, but I’m actively working on building my portfolio as a food, travel and portrait photographer.

It’s an odd little thing that I started blogging because I loved writing, and now what interests and engages me the most is the photography side of it. I’m happier than ever with my Instagram photos, and can’t wait to see where it all goes next.

I’ve done LOTS of travelling!

You might not know it from reading this blog (because I am shamefully behind on my travel posts), but I’ve been super lucky to do SO much travelling already this year.

A villa holiday with the girls in Cyprus. A press trip with Jet2 to Palma. A weekend in Berlin with Erica and Chamaleon Theatre. Then five days in Belfast and four days in Porto with Gary, and this past week I was in Vienna with my mama and Airbnb.

There’s SO much I want to share with you guys, and I think I’m just getting stuck because I don’t know where to start! So my aim in the next few weeks/months is to do better and get up to date.

Any preference for which destination you’d like to see first?

What else?

We still haven’t finished decorating the flat yet. We started looking at kitchens, but then this San Fran trip came up so we’ve decided to wait til Gary gets back to sort that out. We also need to gut the bathroom, change the floors in the hall and living room, and buy a ton of frames for the prints I’ve been collecting!

I’ve read several great books so far this year: The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert (incredible modern fairy-tale fantasy. I could not put it down!), The One by John Marrs (thriller about a woman who discovers a scientific method for people to find their perfect love match), and Japonisme by my LOVELY friend Erin Niimi Longhurst (non-fiction about lots of fascinating aspects about Japanese culture).

I got a prayer plant a few months ago and I haven’t killed it yet. So that’s good.

Aaaaand that’s about it. It’s been a lovely first half of the year, and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
