For months I’ve wanted to take Gary to Crystal Palace Park to see the dinosaur statues.
His favourite film is Jurassic Park and I knew it would be right up his street!
But in blooming typical Murphy’s Law, every time we’ve planned to go it’s either actually rained or looked so grey and miserable that it’s totally put us off leaving the house.
So on Saturday, when it dawned nice and blue skies and sunshiny, I knew EXACTLY where we were going to go for the day!
I was SO impressed by the dinosaur models. They’re all huge and so incredibly detailed.
There are information boards up all over the park and you can read about how the artists/scientists calculated what the dinosaurs would look like from only a small set of fossils.
Obviously, now we have more info and have found more fossils etc, we know that these extinct animals wouldn’t have looked quite like this. So they’ve also helpfully included updated sketches of what scientists now they think they would have been like.
It’s particularly amazing when you know that these statues were actually made before Darwin had even published the Origin of Species. They pieced everything together really well considering!
It’s a beautiful park. Gary loves the wildness of Richmond Park but I think I prefer the chilled out, friendly feel of Crystal Palace.
The grass is all cut neatly, there are tons of trees and interesting plants around, there’s a lovely children’s play park (which makes it very popular with families), it’s big enough for dogs to run around in but small enough that we managed to cover most of it in a day…
And we saw TWO ice cream vans! Ice cream vans make everywhere cooler. (#puns)

We had giraffe bread with jalapeño hummus, slabs of extra-mature cheddar, Pringles, garlic-y herb chicken, cherry tomatoes and blueberries.
Yum!
Who nicked the last piece of giraffe bread? Err no. No it wasn’t me…

I wore one of my lovely new bargainous ASOS skater dresses with tights and my trusty Chelsea boots from boohoo.com.
The jumper is an old one from Primark that actually came with a pearly collar attached. But that went bleh after just one wash so I cut it off and it’s now one of my comfiest most worn sweaters!
The black leather-look backpack is also from Primark, and the sunglasses are my favourite (and very smudged) limited edition Rayban Wayfarers.
Lovely lovely day.
If you’re looking for somewhere nice to spend a quiet sunny Saturday, I definitely recommend heading down to Crystal Palace Park and saying hi to the dinosaurs!
