How To Chill Out At Home

March 6, 2015
Time to Chill Out

So yesterday sucked.

I had one of those mean red days that Holly Golightly talks about so much.

One of those days where everything you do is wrong, you argue with everyone, cry a bit a lot, and finally end up in the toilets at work having your first panic attack in over a year.

Not fun. Not fun at all.

By the time I got home, I was in serious need of some chill out time…

STEP 1: Slip into something more comfortable

Swap that restraining pencil skirt and tights for leggings and snuggly slippers. Huddle into an old hoody, get into your PJs or try on a comfy pair of trackies.

Whatever makes you feel comfortable and comforted.

I went for ripped jeans, an old sweatshirt and my favourite koala socks.

STEP 2: Turn off your phone

This is all about Me Time. Not Me and Twitter time.

Unchain your brain from the social media rat race (at least for a couple of hours!), and give yourself some space to breathe and think and be alone.

STEP 3: Get yo’self some snacks

Something nice to eat, something nice to drink. Whatever you fancy.

My choice was salty popcorn and a cocktail!

Funkin Cocktails sent me a 1L bottle of their amazing new Hollywood cocktail mixer to try. I’ve had some of their juice mixers before and they’re all 100% natural and awesome.

Their new Hollywood flavour is made with acai berries (hence the Hollywood name!), blueberries and raspberries, and is SUPER yummy.

It goes perfectly with a shot of vodka over ice. And I even sprinkled some fresh blueberries over the top! Because vitamins.

STEP 4: Light a candle

Fact: there’s nothing as relaxing as the soft glow of candlelight.

I’m still working my way through my Christmas Yankee Candle collection. At the moment I like burning Snowflake Cookie in my bedroom, for the lovely sweet scent, and I keep Christmas Eve in the living room.

The fruity, spicy smell is super comforting and, also, our living room is red. So it matches the furniture!

STEP 5: Put a film on

“Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.”

I can’t belieeeeeeve it’s taken me 23 years to watch Four Weddings and a Funeral.

It’s one of those that everyone except me seems to have seen, and jaws used drop when I told them I hadn’t seen it. But not anymore!

I really liked it. Hugh Grant is as funny as ever. Carrie is kiiind of annoying. But I heart Kristin Scott Thomas, and she was entirely brilliant.

Best of all: it’s easy to watch. Which basically means my brain doesn’t have to focus too hard.

Time to Chill Out

So there you have it. My perfect recipe for a relaxing night of chill out time.

I’ve now had 8h sleep and I’m off to catch a train to meet my friends and then drive to York.

If you fancy it, you can keep up to date with my Northern adventures on Instagram.

Have a lovely weekend, and Happy Friday! ♥

*I was sent a gift sample of Funkin Cocktail’s Hollywood Cocktail Mixer for review purposes.

As always, if I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t blog it! :)
