So here’s the situation.

I’ve put on quite a bit of weight since last Summer.

I also moved house, and then my boyfriend moved in, so I’ve done a LOT of clearing out.

Which basically means that I currently have about 4 items of Summer clothing that a) I like and b) fit me. So I figured it was about time I did an updated Wardrobe Concept post for you!

My style has definitely evolved since I last did one of these. I wear jeans a lot less, and I’ve realised how much happier and better I feel about myself when I’m making an effort to wear nice things, rather than just throwing any old top and jeans on.

I’ve also become way more cynical about the things I actually buy. I’d much rather spend £60 on a dress that I know I’ll wear weekly and will last me for years, instead of spending £6 on a Primark dress that will shrink in the wash after wearing it once.

(I know. Who even am I. Is this adulthood? I feel like maybe this is what true adulthood feels like…)

To the style concept!

I’m aaaaall about the midi skirt right now. I do have a couple of favourite mini dresses, but with a midi I don’t have to worry about flashing my pants. And I really love that.

This fab bright blue skirt from New Look is super pretty and I love the subtle texture on it. It’s in navy and black and pink as well and I’m really really tempted to buy more than one. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find nice midi skirts?!

I’m also obsessed with Lindy Bop‘s fit and flare dresses at the moment – especially the shirt style ones. The sizing is a bit weird (I have to go up 2 sizes!) but the shapes are so beautiful and I love how many color options they have for each style!

Summer shoes are always tricky for me. I can’t wear open-toe shoes cos I have really ugly toes (thanks to the Girl who trod on me in heels 10 years ago…) so I’m usually all about the caged sandals and pretty ballet flats.

This year I’m also adding a pair of white Adidas trainers to my list (yeah I’m jumping on that bandwagon. And what?) as well as a bunch of the ASOS block heels, including these beautiful pale pink ones.

I’m all about the block colours this year. I’ve realised that I have a bit of an aversion to crazy prints. Simple polka dots or pin-stripes are good. Anything more extreme just doesn’t make me happy.

Black and white is still a massive thing for me (much to Erica‘s disapproval!) but I actually want to incorporate a whole load more colour into my wardrobe. I think it’s a red hair thing.

Recently I’ve been all over the deep jewel tones (green and bright red especially), as well as all shades of blue.

Long story short…

I’m going for simple 1950s shapes, with a modern, colorful twist.
