I’m back with another festive feast suggestion!
If you’re looking for somewhere colorful and fun and delicious for your Christmas meal, whether it’s with friends or colleagues or a date, then I’ve got just the place for you: Bad Egg.
Known for their infamous bottomless brunches, this loud and colorful restaurant is the perfect spot for a fun festive gathering with friends or work colleagues. It’s very casual, very red, and very very good at serving good food.
Bad Egg has nailed it with their Christmas menu this year. For £35 per person, you’ll get a festive main and a side, as well as bottomless prosecco, kir royals, mimosas, and Secret Santa slushies (a vodka, cranberry and orange concoction which is delicious and also lethal.)
You can also do an alcohol-free version of the deal for £20.50, which includes all the same foods, with a selection of unlimited soft drinks.
The ‘Crunch’ menu is available from 3pm, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until the 22nd of December. We went on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t particularly busy, but it might be worth booking if there’s a few of you going on a Friday.
THE CRUNCH MENU
Turkey hash. The hashes were two of our favourite dishes, and I would 100% recommend ordering either (or both?). This one is made with crispy potatoes, fried turkey nuggets, spicy cranberry sauce, shredded sauteed cabbage, and finished with a fried egg on top. The blend of textures and flavours in this was amazing, and
Buffalo turkey bun. My least favourite dish of the night. I’m not much of a buffalo sauce fan anyway, and I reaaally didn’t like this one. The turkey bites were tender, but it was too vinegar-y and too spicy, and just not for me. The others seemed to like it though.
Turkey dog. Beef weiner sausage (lol weiner), served in a bun with with shredded turkey, crispy onions, sauerkraut and (bizarrely) sambal. Sambal is a spicy chilli-based paste/sauce that we ate in Singapore. It shouldn’t really work on this, but oh dear lord it does. I very rarely order hot dogs, but I’d order this one again in a heartbeat.
Christmas burger. I’m unsure about this one. The burger itself was brilliant, cooked perfectly, and served swimming in a pool of gravy and melted cheese fondue. But the horseradish was unnecessary. I don’t like it at the best of times, and here it was just way too overpowering for me.
Cheese Burgerito. This is a cheeseburger and fries wrapped in a tortilla. Which sounds horrid, but was actually one of the top dishes of the night. It was messy and indulgent and absolutely delicious. 10/10 would eat again. And again. And again.
Kimchi bubble and squeak bun. The only vegetarian item on the menu. Squishy and spicy mashed potato balls, deep fried and served in a soft bun with pickles, onions, and chipotle aioli. I’m a big fan of kimchi anyway, and this was lovely.
Sausage, bacon and stuffing hash. This was the second hash of the night, and even yummier than the first: fried potato chunks, oodles of melty cheese sauce, crispy bacon, and then topped with a fried egg and stuffing crumbs. Each bite was like a forkful of Christmas, and we were fighting over it by the end!
FINAL THOUGHTS
– Fabulous deal for a loud and colorful Christmas gathering with colleagues or friends.
– Good variety of drinks. I especially liked that you can swap your choice, so you don’t have to stick to the same option all night. (I got brain freeze after my 2nd slushie and swapped to prosecco!)
– My top 3 dishes: Cheese Burgerito – Turkey Hash – Sausage, Bacon and Stuffing hash.
