September is here!
Time for chunky jumpers, crunchy leaves and Pumpkin spice lattes.
(And rain apparently… but let’s not quibble about the details.)
I mentioned recently that September always feels more like New Year for me than January does.
I mean, I feel like it makes more sense, right?
It’s the beginning of the school year. It’s the end of the sunny seasons and the start of the cold winter…
What’s so special about January anyway?
NOTHING.
It’s cold and grey and miserable and there’s absolutely nothing good about it.
I’d much rather start my Happy New Year in a golden haze of hot tea, fireplaces and orange tartan scarves…
Wouldn’t you?
I always feel so much more productive in September as well. Summer has been, I’ve had my holidays and rest, and now I’m fired up and raring to go.
So it’s time for a clear up, a clear out and a new set of goals and ambitions!
(And a lovely fresh set of pens and fancy notebooks and a new diary/agenda/planner. Because in my head I’m still at school so NEW STATIONARY PLEASEANDTHANKYOU.)
1. SORT OUT MY BLOG
What, you didn’t see this one coming?
I’m in the middle of a re-brand (in case you didn’t hear), so I’m currently working on colours, patterns, designs, tag lines, fonts, features…
Basically, I’m upgrading.
I also think I’d started to get a bit too comfy about it all, and then it got a bit boring and that was another reason for my big blog slow-down a few months back.
I need to kick it up a notch and really challenge myself again.
So now I’m working on posting daily, learning how to schedule posts in advance, organising my social media promotion and creating content that kicks ass and makes me happy.
Watch out world!
2. IMPROVE MY PHOTOGRAPHY EDITING SKILLS
My photography has come on in leaps and bounds since the days of teeny-tiny photos taken on my phone and not edited very well at all…
But I’ve still got a way to go.
I want to finally, fiiiiinally learn how to use Photoshop and make my photos super-duper awesome (ish).
3. START BAKING AGAIN
I’ve actually been doing really well with my January resolution of cooking from scratch more often, so now it’s time to also get back to baking from scratch.
I used to bake A LOT.
In fact, I was so into it that one year ALL of my birthday presents was baking themed. (Seriously. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. And all cupcake-patterned-paper-wrapped. It’s like everyone I knew had got together to organise it. Except they didn’t. I just liked baking a lot).
But over the years I seem to have lost the trick. And now I feel like it’s almost become one of those mental barriers that need to be jumped over.
So yeah. MUST JUMP THAT BARRIER. MUST START BAKING AGAIN.
(Preferably before GBBO ends because challeeeenge.)
4. MAKE MORE OF AN EFFORT WITH MY HAIR
OK don’t laugh. But recently I think my poor old hair has been feeling a bit forgotten…
I’m become so good at cleansing my face every night and moisturising my whole body in the shower every morning, and I even have a full makeup routine for every day!
But I cannot for the life of me remember the last time I gave my hair some good ol’ TLC. And it’s starting to show.
I want to get back in the habit of giving it weekly coconut oil masks, finding a better shampoo and conditioner (cos I think the ones I’m using at the moment are NOT agreeing with my locks) and generally making it feel healthier and look nicer.
Because I’m worth it. *hair flick*
5. READ AT LEAST 5 NEW BOOKS A MONTH
I am so, so, so bad for just re-reading old favourites.
I’ve literally only read 6 new books this whole Summer, and I’m very disappointed in myself.
Especially as I know it’s not from lack of choice. There are plenty of new reads just sat on my Kindle waiting for me to click on them!
I just keep going back to Hunger Games and Harry Potter and old classics I’ve read since I was a little girl.
So yeah. 5 new books a month.
I’ve already started with Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley and it’s proving an excellent first choice!
So what are your goals for this Autumn?
(Apart from cuddling into chunky jumpers and skipping through crunchy leaves and drinking aaaall the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, OBVIOUSLY?)
