Burgers and Beer Floats at Shake Shack

I had a different post planned for today, but I feel that this is far too important for me not to share ASAP…

YOU GUYS. I tried Shake Shack. For like the first time ever.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Shake Shack before, it’s an American burger joint. It started life as a humble street cart in New York, and it’s now a MASSIVE chain, with nearly 50 restaurants open in the States and another 30 internationally.

London’s first Shake Shack opened it’s doors to Covent Garden in 2013 and has been building a pretty solid fanbase ever since. A few months ago they opened another branch in Stratford too.

I’ve been dyiiiiing to visit for ages. But girl gots many a burger to try, and it’s taken me until now to get my butt down there.

And oh boy was it worth the wait!

First of all: HOW CUTE IS THEIR BRANDING?

Second of all: BURGERS. ALL THE BURGERS.

Juicy beef patties topped with a selection of bacon, melted cheese, ale-marinated crispy onions and Shake Shack’s special burger sauce. Hot dogs smothered in spicy relish, salad, onions and mustard. And cheese fries. (Always cheese fries.)

The food was brilliant: perfectly cooked meat, perfectly crunchy onions and perfectly cheesy cheese fries.

It’s a tad pricier than some of the similar burger places I’ve eaten at (Five Guys), and I do still think that there are other burgers out there with a little extra-something-special (Bleeker Street).

But yeah. Solid effort. GOOD JOB SHAKE SHACK.

Now, where Shake Shack is MILES ahead of the rest of their competitors, is in their desserts.

Their specialty is frozen custard, a really thick and delicious ice-cream made daily in-house. They then blend this fabulous concoction with other local ingredients to make amazing “Concretes” and shakes, unique to each and every one of their venues.

And right now, they’re currently running a brilliant week-long collaboration with Mast Brothers’ Chocolate.

Let me introduce you to The Chocolate Beer Float! A massive scoop of Shake Shack’s creamy frozen custard, all topped up with a glass of Mast Brother’s artisan (and non-alcoholic) chocolate beer.

Trust me on this one: IT. IS. GOOOOOOD.

The beer is chocolatey but light, and not anywhere as sweet as you’d think it would be. The frozen custard is thick and creamy, and mellows it all out beautifully until you have this lovely mix of deliciousness that you just want to keep drinking forever and ever amen.

IMPORTANT: it’s only available in the Covent Garden store and only until the 23rd of August.

So get your skates on and make sure you hop on down in time to try it!
